Bergen Excursion 2024
In September 11.-16.9. NESU Excursion was held in Bergen, Norway. On this page you can find information and a recap about the Bergen Excu. Big thank you to all the participants, organizing team and sponsors for making the trip unforgettable! The 2024 Excu cost 120€ and included everything in the program below.
Program Recap
WEDNESDAY – Arrival
Participants arrive to Bergen at their own schedule. The weather is classic Bergen, slightly rainy. Check-in to CityBox Bergen isn’t until 4pm, so for most participants it’s the perfect time to go grab something to eat, shop and explore the city.
Upon entering their rooms, participants find a goodie bag with a name badge, an Excu hat and other stuff. They also find out who their roommates are for the week!
Welcome event
At 8pm, after everyone has had time to settle in and get to know their roomies, it’s time to get to know everyone else, at the Welcome event! The team offered a light dinner for everyone at the venue, after which they presented themselves and the practicalities of the trip.
Next, the participants “speed-dated” their way into knowing each others’ names, home cities, majors and more. After the progam, people were free to stay at the bar or go rest.
THURSDAY – Work hard, play hard
The Excursion team has prepared breakfast for everyone. Next up is a company visit at Gard, a company that enables sustainable maritime development by providing insurance, financial security and practical assistance when disaster strikes. We learned a lot about the impacts of maritime accidents and enjoyed delicious subs.
Business casual time has passed and next the participants are equipping cozy and warm outdoor clothing. Everyone met up at the town square and gathered into groups selected by the organizing team. The objective of these teams is to complete challenges worth different points all around Bergen within a time limit. NESU Extravaganza begins!
After some hours completing sightseeing and cultural familiarization activities masterfully disguised as challenges, time was up and points counted. But the winner shall remain a mystery until later. Next up is laser tag at Megazone for some more team building, followed by an afterparty.
FRIDAY – Freetime and fine dining
Friday morning there was no rush or early wakeup calls, and participants were able to tour the city at their own schedule with old and new friends. This was a great opportunity to try some local cuisine, find souvenirs and just admire and explore the beautiful city.
In the evening a dinner reservation awaited us at Bjerck, where we got to enjoy a delicious starter and main course. During the dinner we had a special guest, a local student advocate, who gave us an inspiring speech.
After the dinner a breakfast workshop was held to make sure everyone has something to eat the next morning, when we need to catch an early bus.
Despite the early wakeup, many people still headed into the nightlife of Bergen that Friday evening.
SATURDAY – Naturally worldwide
Saturday morning everyone grabbed their breakfasts and hopped on a private bus. The first half of the day was purely reserved for a nature getaway. The bus took us to several beautiful sites outside of the city. First we stopped at Mundheim, then at the old Innstranda batteri -bunker. Next we had our lunch break at Norrheimsund, and went onto enjoy the sight of a waterfall and calm countryside over at Steindalsfossen. After that we made two more stops, Fossenbratte and Morkholsfossen, and it was time to head back to Bergen.
The evening, however, had something completely different in store for us. After having some time to rest, everybody started getting getting ready for the sitz party, also known as an academic table party. The theme for the party was Pitbull on tour. We saw several Mr. Worldwides that night and red wine was flowing. Dale.
The sitz party consists of songs, drinks, great company and program to keep you entertained all night. If you’ve never been to a sitz before, you’ve been missing out! And don’t worry, you’ll pick up on how it goes before you know it!
SUNDAY – Last look at Bergen
Sunday morning dawns, and most people are still sleeping. Last night ended late and so program for the last day doesn’t start until 2pm. At this point we had seen much of Bergen and its surroundings, but one thing was still missing. The fjords! The Excursion team had booked a three-hour fjord cruise for everyone and the views were breathtaking.
Eventually it’s time to say goodbye.
Our Farewell event took place in a nice restaurant, where everyone got to share tapas and a warm meal together, one last time. The Excursion team awarded some notably NESU-spirited newcomers while the tables are excitingly discussing what a week they’ve had.
After the dinner there’s an opportunity to take one last look at Bergen’s nightlife at the afterparty.
The next day, everyone is responsible for making it to their flights.
Excursion team 2024
Huge thanks to magnificent players for putting all of this together!
